Calculate studs, plates, and total board feet for wall framing.

Wall Dimensions

Enter wall specifications for framing material estimate

Note: Calculation includes top and bottom plates (doubled bottom plate for load-bearing walls). Add 10-15% waste factor when ordering.

Stud Spacing

16" OC is standard for most walls. Use 12" OC for heavy loads or high winds. 24" OC acceptable for non-load-bearing interior walls with proper sheathing.

Headers

Door/window openings require headers. Size depends on span and load. Typical: 2×6 for 3' span, 2×8 for 4-5', 2×10 for 6-7', 2×12 for 8-10'.

Plates

Top plate: single or double. Bottom plate: single for non-load-bearing, double for load-bearing. Use pressure-treated for bottom plate on concrete.

الأسئلة الشائعة

How many studs do I need for a wall?
Divide wall length (in inches) by stud spacing, add 1. Example: 20' wall ÷ 16" OC = 240" ÷ 16 = 15 + 1 = 16 studs. Add extras for corners, intersections, and openings.
What size lumber for wall framing?
2×4 for most interior non-load-bearing walls. 2×6 for exterior walls (better insulation space) and load-bearing walls. Use appropriate header sizes for openings.
Do I need blocking in walls?
Required for fire stops in walls over 10' tall, backing for cabinets/fixtures, and mid-span bracing. Check local building codes for specific requirements.
