Estimate board feet and timber yield from standing trees.

Tree Measurement

Enter tree dimensions to estimate board foot yield

Tip: DBH is measured at 4.5 feet above ground. Merchantable height is the usable length from stump to first major defect or branch.

Doyle Rule

Most conservative estimate. Formula: ((D-4)²/16) × L. Best for smaller diameter logs (12-28"). Commonly used in eastern US.

Scribner Rule

Moderate estimate based on diagram method. Most widely used in US. Provides middle-ground between Doyle and International rules.

International Rule

Most accurate for large logs. Formula based on cylinder volume with taper. Preferred for hardwoods and large diameter timber.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is DBH and how do I measure it?
DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) is measured at 4.5 feet above ground level. Use a diameter tape or measure circumference and divide by π (3.14159).
Which log rule should I use?
Doyle for smaller logs (12-28" diameter), Scribner for general use (most common in US), International for large logs and hardwoods. Check local standards.
What is a typical waste factor?
15-25% is typical. Factors include: bark loss, sawdust (kerf), defects, taper, and trimming. Higher quality trees have lower waste.
